about

"I've personally known Utakemebackto99, or whatever he refers to now for almost 5 years. He was still in high school and from the looks of it, was in the midst of many internal and external struggles. A young man who was reluctant to speak, yet there was enough vulnerability exuded from him to notice he was unhappy. One positive and negative attribute to Utake is his strive for perfection, which has been evident since I met him. While he can be highly observant and self aware, it doesn't stop him from blocking his own path. Through time and introspection, he became able to advocate for himself, gaining a new perspective allowing him to pursue building the life he wants to live, while preserving the care he has for others. The dedication he's displayed to certain aspects of his life have paid off, specifically in regard to his own music. I've never heard a single song from him because of his reluctant and perfectionist nature, but I can recognize by the many stories he's told me that music is an outlet for him to release certain thoughts and confront his emotions, however he still feels like he's a work in progress. He told me about songs he'd been working on for several years, yet he sometimes says it's out of not feeling like his music is perfect or to his idea of the highest quality product. Juxtaposing between optimism and defeat quite easily, his constant disillusionment with himself is what leads him to isolate or give up.
Through personal experience and conversations, I'm sure he understands there is a chance that maybe perfection or even consistent happiness doesn't exist in his life. In spite of that, I believe he also recognizes that doesn't dismiss life of its worth and it doesn't mean that his goals are not worth attempting to achieve. Utake can often be so afraid of failure, even though he's only failed at appreciating himself. Regardless, I still believe he has grown a lot over these 5 tumultuous years of his life. Once again, I've yet to hear his music, but for him to reach this point of showing the world anything is a sign that he's found something in himself. While life may not necessarily get any easier, it can still get better."
